Students' dissertations

Students' dissertations submitted as a requirement of the Institute's degree courses cover a wide-ranging selection of subject areas related to the study of Earth Systems.

The dissertation study-unit provides students with the opportunity to undertake an independent research project in a subject area in which they have a particular interest, applying both theoretical content and skills learned during the course.

Dissertations generally include the following standard research components: the identification and clear statement of a research question, a review of the relevant literature, the design of an appropriate methodology to address the research question, data collection and analysis, and a discussion of the results obtained.
