Opportunities for undergraduate students

Students reading for an undergraduate degree with the Institute of Earth Systems are encouraged to consider a semester abroad under the Erasmus+ Programme. Studying abroad for a few months can be both profitable and hugely enjoyable, providing experience that enhances inter-cultural soft skills, including language skills, as well as boosting future career prospects.

During recent years, the Institute’s students have taken advantage of the opportunities offered by Erasmus+ to study at Bournemouth University in the UK and the Universita degli Studi di Perugia in Italy, among others.

Students should note that the preferred mobility semester for the Institute’s undergraduate courses is Semester 3 i.e. the first semester of the second year of your studies; this applies to both the B.Sc. (Hons) in Earth Systems and the B.Sc. (Hons) in Mediterranean Agro-ecosystems Management. Please consult the list of the available placements in relevant areas of study at approved universities. It is also recommended that you speak to your Course Coordinator as early as possible if you intend to apply for a study mobility period.

Undergraduate students who have completed their first year of university are also eligible to participate in an Erasmus+ mobility traineeship at one of the partner universities with which the University of Malta has a signed inter-institutional agreement or in an enterprise or organisation or an NGO. Such traineeships can also be conducted within a maximum of one year after your graduation, in which case the application for mobility must to be submitted prior to graduation.

More information about Erasmus+, and details of how to apply, can be accessed here.
