Eligibility Citeria

The “Dean’s Award” of the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences recognises academic excellence achieved in four categories, as described in detail below. In order to be considered for the “Dean’s Award”, students must prove exceptionally high achievements during the course of their studies.

The students eligible for inclusion in the “Dean’s Award” must satisfy ALL the criteria listed under each category, without exception.

1. For Academic Excellence in Bachelor programmes

The purpose of the awards is not to replicate the final degree classification but rather to reward academic excellence in the academic years prior to the final year.
        To qualify for the award, students must satisfy the following criteria:
        a) 30 ECTS Grade A or better;
        b) 20 ECTS Grade B or better;
        c) Not more than 10 ECTS Grade C or D;
        d) No failure/resit/compensated passes;
        e) Recommendation from the Head of Department or Coordinator of studies

2. For Academic Excellence in the taught components of Master Programmes
        To qualify for the award, students must satisfy the following criteria:
        a) 30 ECTS Grade A or better;
        b) 20 ECTS Grade B or better;
        c) Not more than 10 ECTS Grade C or D;
        d) No failure/resit in any study-unit;     
        e) Recommendation from the Head of Department or Coordinator of studies

3. Outstanding dissertation presented as part of a Bachelor programme

4. Outstanding dissertation  presented as part of a taught Master programme

5. Outstanding dissertation  presented as part of a by research Master programme

6. Academic Excellence - PhD programme

The award is for excellence (not normal progress) and is only awarded in those years when at least one student exhibits excellence in one or more of the following criteria:
    a) Outstanding progress in the design of research instruments
    b) Outstanding progress in the collection of empirical results (including outstanding effort in field work required)
    c) Outstanding analysis/results resulting quality/quantity of publications or in media attention
    d) Outstanding social impact of work achieved to date
    e) Outstanding interdisciplinary work
    f) Outstanding contribution to related projects which may be part of extra-mural funded work

7. Outstanding PhD dissertation
