Studying with us

If you are a professional pilot seeking to develop or strengthen your career path through formal university education and qualification, then the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Air Transport will help you to achieve that goal.

This part-time course is offered jointly with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Worldwide) and is part of a dual degree programme that will also award you with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics. You will be enrolled both with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Worldwide) and the University of Malta and will graduate from both universities with two awards. You will be able to complete your degree in a minimum of four years but will have the option of taking longer if you wish. You will also have the option of stopping at various points during the course of your studies and will be awarded a Certificate, Diploma or Higher Diploma depending on when you decide to stop.

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Air Transport provides you with the opportunity to study at your own pace as the course will be fully online and delivered in an asynchronous manner, so your time zone will not be an issue. All this ensures that the programme structure and delivery are specifically tailored to your needs and to the needs of the airline industry, allowing you to continue working whilst studying, and to immediately apply the learning outcomes at your place of work to your benefit and to the benefit of your organisation.

Furthermore, in recognition of your pilot qualifications, the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Air Transport will award you with 72 ECTS credits, which is equivalent to around a quarter of the complete programme of study.

In several airlines, a bachelor’s degree is a prerequisite for pilots to advance in their career and be promoted to Captain. Also, some pilots eventually transition to a non-flying role (such as a management position), for which a bachelor’s degree would be essential. This dual degree programme specifically provides pilots with knowledge and skills – in areas such as computing, economics, leadership and safety – that go beyond what is typically included in pilot training. So, if you are a pilot and looking to improve your career prospects, this course will help you to be better prepared when you transition to your next role.

Key highlights of the course:

  • Fully online and asynchronous
  • Part-time studies
