UM IT Account agreement for students

The UM IT Account is being provided to you subject to the underlying agreement terms. May we remind you that you have agreed to subject yourself to these terms when you were activating your UM IT Account.

  • Access to services and facilities offered by the UM IT Services (hereinafter referred to as ‘IT Services’), your UM email address and Google Workspace for Education is being provided for academic and UM-related work. Use of these is subject to the UM IT Services Acceptable Use Policy.
  • The UM or IT Services may send official notices to your UM email address. Notice of termination of this account (when applicable) will be sent to your UM email address. Accordingly, you agreed to regularly monitor messages sent to your UM email address and will ensure that the allocated quota is not exceeded.
  • You have read the UM IT Services Acceptable Use Policy, and agreed to subject yourself to the terms and conditions of such policy. Failure to abide by the UM IT Services Acceptable Use Policy may lead to termination of the account prior to the end of your course of studies at UM and will make you liable to disciplinary action in terms of the UM Disciplinary Regulations.
  • The Google Workspace for Education service is a privilege offered by UM to UM students. The continued provision of the Google Workspace for Education service is contingent upon the continuance and renewal of the current agreement between the UM and Google.
  • Once you complete your studies at UM and become a member of the UM Alumni Community (refer to these criteria to become a UM alumnus/alumna), you will no longer be able to access the services and facilities available only to current students (including Google Workspace for Education). You shall be granted access to Alumni Online. You may also opt to retain your UM email address. If you do opt to retain your UM email address, the UM email address will automatically start forwarding emails to your personal email address which is provided to UM. Your access to the mentioned facilities and services shall be subject to your acceptance of the UM Alumni Acceptable Use Policy. By making use of or accessing any of these services (Alumni Online and the UM email address) at any time after you complete your studies at UM, you shall thereby be indicating your tacit acceptance of the terms and conditions of the UM Alumni Acceptable Use Policy.
  • You agreed to indemnify UM and its staff against any claims arising out of your use of the UM IT Account. It is your responsibility to maintain your own backup copies of data stored on IT Services facilities.
  • If you are under eighteen (18) years old, certain additional services available through Google Workspace for Education may require your parent/legal guardian’s consent for their use. You confirmed to UM that you have obtained your parent/legal guardian’s consent for the use of these services.
