We encourage all our students, and first-years in particular, to download and read the latest edition of the handbook. The introductory sections provide a brief overview of the Institute of Earth Systems, and outline the code of conduct expected of our students, while the following chapter aims to assist students in developing and applying effective learning strategies, and presents guidelines on study methods and activities.
Ensuing sections focus on assignments and examinations (including tips for effective communication and delivery), and on dissertations and research/practice-oriented projects, all of which are key components of a course of study. Information on academic and social support structures is provided in the next chapter, and the handbook concludes by summing up the various communication tools available to students.
