Below are some noteworthy features and enhancements that are available in Zoom.
Last updated 26 October 2023.

  • To provide the best audio quality possible for Zoom Meetings in busy environments, users can configure Personalized Denoise in the client audio settings directly, which will capture and analyse a clip of your audio from meetings to differentiate your voice from and suppress background noise in meetings. Zoom does not receive or retain this clip or analysis, which stays on your device and is only used for noise suppression in meetings you join.
  • Hosts and co-hosts can now create, edit and delete polls during a meeting. Prior to this change, creation and modification of polls needed to be done via the web portal. The Polls button is available on the Zoom meeting control bar (if you cannot see this button click on More...).

  • Hosts can now choose to create breakout rooms based on the participants' poll answers. For instance, the host may want to split breakout rooms based on participants who share similar interests.
  • If the host enables Captions during the meeting, participants can activate automated captions themselves via the Zoom meeting control bar. Previously participants needed to send a request to the host for captions to be enabled on their screen.

  • Participants can customise the captions' font size and colour while in a meeting or webinar to suit their needs.

The quick guide, Using Zoom captions, provides further information to both hosts and participants regarding Zoom's closed captions.
  • Tutors can now view the analytics for a lecture / tutorial Zoom recording via the Zoom meetings manager activity. The recording metrics are available as Summary, By View and By Download. Note that only the host of the meeting can view the corresponding analytics.

Uploading of files

  • Speakers can upload files that will be displayed in webinars. The uploaded files will be available for download by attendees from the session's lobby.

Webinar session branding

  • Hosts can customise their webinar sessions' appearance by uploading a wallpaper image behind the video titles, setting a virtual background and applying name tags to panelists.
