Open Access

As one of the cornerstones of Open Science, Open Access (OA) plays a pivotal role in shaping the academic landscape. It strives to ensure that research outputs are not only available free of cost or other barriers but also in a manner that fosters reusability and reproducibility, thus accelerating scientific progress and democratising access to knowledge. There are two main ways to achieve Open Access: Green, where researchers self-archive their work in a freely accessible repository after publishing in a traditional subscription-based journal, and Gold, where unrestricted access and dissemination are facilitated directly by the journal, referred to as an OA journal.

Our Library wholeheartedly embraces Open Access principles. In line with the Open Access Policy, academics and researchers are required to submit their published papers to the UM Institutional Repository, OAR@UM. If you wish to know more about OAR@UM, publications lists, Open Access publishing, and related matters, kindly refer to the FAQs below or contact the Open Science Department.
