Title: CLEAN FLIGHT
Duration: 2011-2013
Funding scheme: MCST National R&I Programme (R&I-2011-021)
Funds: c. EUR 170,000
Principal investigator: Dr Ing. Kenneth Chircop
CLEAN-FLIGHT aimed to develop technologies, tools and procedures to allow aircraft to fly cleaner trajectories within the Maltese airspace, thus contributing to the reduction of emissions in the said airspace. The consortium consisted of the University of Malta (acting as lead partner) and QuAero Ltd.
The key outputs of CLEAN-FLIGHT were (a) the design and recommendation of new routing to accommodate P-RNAV procedures to be flown in and out of Malta and (b) a flight management tool and associated concept of operation (the procedure that will be used to operate the tool in flight) to allow aircraft to be flown more advantageously in terms of emissions, fuel burn and operational costs.
