Title: ODICIS (One DIsplay for a Cockpit Interactive Solution)

Duration: 2009-2012

Funding scheme: EU Seventh Framework Programme for Research (Grant agreement ID: 233605)

Overall budget: EUR 5,610,179

UM budget: EUR 251,700

UM coordinator: Prof. Ing. David Zammit Mangion

ODICIS, coordinated by Thales Avionics, developed technologies for a single cockpit display concept and built a functioning mock-up (prototype) to demonstrate the proof of principle. The ODICIS cockpit was the first end-to-end seamless cockpit display ever constructed for civil aviation. It was highly rated by the EC, the bid ranking second from a total of 231 bids in the 2008 call. It was also very successful, with the mock-up being displayed at the Thales booth at the 2011 Paris Airshow and attracting significant interest from the industry and dignitaries from the French Government and the EC.

The University of Malta conducted a requirements capture, developed software and algorithms for display generation and developed a concept of use for exploiting the single end-to-end touch screen display. The contract funded five Research Support Officers and resulted in the publication of two academic publications co-authored with industry and the exhibiting of technologies developed by the University of Malta at the Thales Booth at the 2011 Paris Airshow and the 2012 Farnborough International Airshow.
